We have intensified the ¡®It Project¡¯, which provides support to directors of selected project films such as production funding and meetings with film producers. In 2008 when films full of imagination and popularity were showcased, a total of 19 official projects were selected including SF, fantasy, action, horror, graphic novel and animated films. This was hailed by the film industry and media at home and abroad as a new era of project markets.
This year, not only are we diagnosing the current status of Asian genre films with more creative and futuristic movies but we have also increased production funding and provide upgraded follow-up support.
In particular, ¡®Project Spotlight¡¯ helped discover and highlight new Asian genre movies. This year, we will be showcasing genre films from Singapore. Also, various processes for this project will be introduced, including meetings between filmmakers and producers and the pitch programs.
¡®Fantastic Film School¡¯, a workshop program of young and talented cineastes and professionals, will hold a workshop on alternative SF genres under the theme ¡°New SF Movies: Beyond the Forbidden Boundaries¡±. There will be guest lectures not only by movie directors but also SF novelists and graphic novel artists as well as various lab programs on scenario, filming and animating. In particular, the list of participants will expand from producers of real picture films to animators.
What¡¯s more, the ¡®Participants Project Lab¡¯ newly launched this year will provide speed meeting sessions between young producers in the field and individual participants.
NAFForum, where discussions are held to promote the production of Asian genre movies, has developed into a specialized forum by selecting subjects that are directly linked to the industry. Various programs - including the forum - that will be held over 5 days will provide opportunities for cineastes to form successful partnerships and collaborations.
